Adobe Illustrator

Led the design and integration of core Illustrator features (Artboard, Crop, Duplicate, Blur) into Illustrator Web while improving the first-time user experience. The project focused on reducing friction in desktop-to-web transition, resulting in significant adoption gains with ~57% MAU growth and +9.8% WAU.

I spent around 1.5 years working on Illustrator Web working on multiple projects. Some of the major features that I worked on focused on solving:

  • How can we make the Artboard tool simpler?

  • How to enhance the blur feature and apply it intuitively?

  • Can we make duplicating and rearranging quicker?

  • How can we make the signed out experience richer?

Reach out to me if you're curious about any of these listed question and I'll share my detailed case studies.

Context

Worked on Adobe Illustrator Web, focusing on bringing core desktop Illustrator capabilities to the browser and improving the first-mile experience for users transitioning to web-based design workflows.

Problem

Illustrator Web lacked essential design tools and a smooth onboarding experience, creating friction for users moving from desktop to web and limiting adoption of browser-based workflows.

Goal

Enable a seamless, intuitive, and capable web design experience by integrating key tools (Artboard, Crop, Duplicate, Blur) and improving onboarding to drive user adoption and engagement.

My Role

Owned end-to-end design for core tools (Artboard, Crop, Duplicate, Rearrange and Blur) including workflows, default behaviors, and interaction patterns.

Shaped the first-mile user experience, reducing friction in transitioning from desktop to web.

Conducted competitive analysis of web-based design tools to inform feature design decisions.

Identified and solved for edge cases and complex workflows, ensuring robust feature behavior.

Collaborated closely with engineering to deliver detailed specifications and ensure accurate implementation.

Led post-launch testing and debugging, ensuring a stable and high-quality user experience.

Outcome

Drove significant product adoption with ~57% increase in MAU and +9.8% growth in WAU, improving overall engagement with Illustrator Web.

Enabled end-to-end design workflows on web by launching critical tools (Artboard, Crop, Duplicate, Blur), reducing reliance on desktop.

Improved first-time user experience and onboarding, making it easier for users to transition from desktop to browser-based design.
